Position Announcement

 

POSITION: Assistant Professor, Weed Science, 12‐month, tenure-track, 100% Research.

LOCATION: Kansas State University Agricultural Research Center, Hays, Kansas. Tenure home in Department of Agronomy, Manhattan.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Lead an innovative and nationally recognized applied weed science program focused on dryland and irrigated cropping systems in western Kansas. Develop integrated weed management strategies based on a sound understanding of weed biology and ecology; and incorporating chemical, cultural, and mechanical tactics. Particular emphasis will be given to the management of herbicide-resistant weed species. This individual will be expected to develop active collaborations with other public and private weed scientists and agronomists in the state and region. Expectations also include publication of research results in peer-reviewed journals in a timely manner, securing extramural funds for research and capacity building activities, and training of graduate students. Service expectations include sharing expertise at extension workshops and answering questions from producers and agricultural professionals.

QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Ph.D. in weed science, agronomy, crop science, or closely related field with a strong background in applied weed science. Ability to conceive, plan, and implement research in weed management and ecology. Ability to interpret and report results to the scientific community, industry clientele, county extension agents, and producers. Ability to complete research projects as evidenced by publication of the applicant’s graduate research and presentation of scholarly work. Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English. Interpersonal skills that promote interaction in a multidisciplinary context. Ability to work in a multi-cultural setting and create an environment that fosters diversity, collegiality, and teamwork. Preferred: Experience in weed management in semi-arid cropping systems. Demonstrated record of scientific publication and competitive grant writing commensurate with current career development.
